Why hire Joy as an editor?

Right now, Joy is only able to accept editing jobs from current or former coaching clients & former editing clients. Sometimes she can make exceptions, but not often.

As an editor, Joy is deeply interested in YOU, the writer. Joy wants your voice to be heard.  She connects with you as a person & seeks to edit so that you sound more like you.

Editing expertise:

  • Joy’s editing passion is developmental editing. Sometimes other editors call this substantive editing. Developmental editing with Joy improves your article or manuscript in deep, expansive way. Developmental editing varies from client to client, but often it addresses ideas, overall focus, evidence, why your work matters, and who your audience it. Developmental editing is comprehensive and examines organization, style, and discursive pattern that limit what you are trying to do. Developmental editing with Joy is a combination of coaching sessions and written feedback.

  • Joy also offers copyediting (line-by-line editing) to clients. Usually, this kind of editing comes after coaching or after developmental editing and revision. Copyediting happens at the end of the writing and revision process. Copyediting corrects grammar, sentence structure, wordiness, spelling, and punctuation. It can also polish language while maintaining author’s voice. Copyediting is not proofreading. Proofreading checks a text that has been typeset for publication and Joy does not offer this service at this time.

“It made my day when my article was finally published. I felt such a sense of relief. You will never know how much your developmental editing helped me. It meant the world to me.”
